Lisa began studying the body and movement in college, as a Physical Education major. Years later, she competed at triathlon for 10 years, and was the massage therapist for many runners and triathletes in Atlanta. She ran Sports Massage Therapy Associates for more than 10 years. During this time she worked with some of Atlanta’s best doctors, learning bio-mechanics and the nature of injuries due to athletics/movement. To further her base of knowledge she studied Pilates, apprenticed and completed a 600 hour certification course. She was able to study with one of the original master teachers in New York City; Romana Kryzanowska. After a year of teaching Pilates and still using massage therapy as a tool for performance and health, Lisa became certified as a personal trainer with the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Finding Yoga as a vital part of her life in 2000, Lisa began teaching after studying with Avril James, and David Swenson. She was first certified by Doug Swenson in 2004. She now has a 200-hour, Yoga Alliance Registration through course work at Etowah Valley Yoga, and continues to deepen her personal and professional knowledge of Yoga by working towards a 500-hour Advanced Certification, which will be complete in mid-2010. |
Jocelyn Simpson

Jocelyn has always been a fitness enthusiast, having taught just about everything from aerobics and strength training to aqua to cardio kickboxing, generally with an emphasis on weight loss, fitness, strength and toning. She became drawn toward pilates and tai chi upon discovering that in addition to providing fitness benefits, these disciplines also offered great health and wellness benefits such as improved body alignment and posture, improved joint function, muscle balance, relaxation and pain relief, things many of her clients needed. She began her journey in this direction in earnest as she saw the help many received from these methods of exercise. After teaching mat pilates for several years, Jocelyn was trained in the full pilates repertoire at Core Bodyworks. She later became acquainted with the work of Dr. Paul Lam (pictured with her) in the area of Tai Chi for Health, and has taken many training hours with him. Jocelyn’s goal is to find what works for each individual to help them improve their health and fitness, making it enjoyable at the same time! She holds certifications with AFAA, SCW and Dr. Lam’s Tai Chi for Health (Tai Chi for Beginners, Tai Chi for Back Pain, Tai Chi for Arthritis, Tai Chi for Osteoporosis and Fall Prevention). She is also pre/postnatal certified. Jocelyn is a member of the Pilates Method Alliance, the Tai Chi for Health Community and the International Yang Family Tai Chi Association. She is also associated with the Arthritis Foundation in connection with her Tai Chi for Arthritis certification. |

Jane de Albuquerque

|
Jane has been involved in competitive sports since a very young age. She is certified as a personal trainer through the American Council on Exercise (ACE), and began practicing Iyengar yoga in the mid-90s as a means to treat chronic knee problems. Jane soon found that the mind–body connection of yoga far outweighed the physical benefits, and became conscious of how yoga complements athletics, as well as enhances every day life. She wanted to share her knowledge of yoga with others and began her teacher-training certification at Etowah Valley Yoga. Jane became a registered teacher through the Yoga Alliance after completing her training with Sue Hopkins. She continues to deepen her study of yoga by working toward her 500-hour advanced yoga certification. As an avid runner, Jane has a continual interest in training athletes and feels that yoga can enhance athletic performance by teaching athletes to become more focused and centered. In addition to training athletes, she feels strongly that yoga can be accessible to all people, regardless of prior yoga experience or physical limitations. Jane is eager to assist everyone in obtaining the physical and mental benefits of a regular yoga practice. |
