Lisa began the study of massage therapy while working in a chiropractic office and teaching exercise classes. Through teaching seniors, she began to realize the amazing healing capacity of the body through movement, and was at the same time learning about complementary therapies and holistic medicine.
During her course of study at the Atlanta School of Massage, she was introduced to her first mentor through Functional Anatomy. This led to post graduate courses of study in Neuromuscular Therapy and Sports Massage Therapy. Working with athletes, and active individuals became the goal.
In 1986, Lisa was graduated from all studies and began working as a full time therapist at The Sports Massage Institute of Atlanta, with her mentor. The clinic was the first of its kind in the Atlanta area, offering something to the athletic community that was cutting edge. Runners, triathletes and other athletes, as well as individuals in pain, frequented the clinic, addressing injuries and performance issues. During these years, Lisa began the first ever Georgia Sports Massage Team. The team was dedicated to donating pre and post massage at a minimum of 10 sporting events each year. This became a precedent for massage therapists, which still continues in the area.
In 1989, Lisa opened her own clinic, Sports Massage Therapy Associates. The office was staffed by a team of three to six therapists. They worked with coaches and athletes, teams from high schools and colleges, as well as orthopedists, chiropractors, athletic trainers, physical therapists, and podiatrists. This network of dedicated professionals became strong in those years, and continues in the metro Atlanta area. Lisa kept the clinic open through 1999. The needs of those clients, during the clinic years brought growth that led her to going into a private practice, to provide a more thorough approach to establishing an injury free, active body. At this point her practice became a combination of Neuromuscular and Sports Massage Therapy, with the addition of personal training through a combination of traditional muscular training, Pilates and Yoga.
In 1999, Lisa opened Core Bodyworks to provide Pilates, Yoga training, along with massage therapy. She operated the studio/office personally till she was able to find, or train instructors in the Pilates method. Now the studio has four Pilates instructors, two Yoga instructors, and a massage therapist along with two practitioners of Meridian Stretching. Since 2004, the studio has educated three groups of individuals becoming Pilates instructors, and touches the lives of many who wish to approach fitness and wellness through efficient physical and mental training.
From 1987 through the present Lisa has been a member of The American Massage Therapy Association. Till 2008, the state of Georgia did not recognize Massage Therapy as a licensed profession, Lisa was licensed through the State of Florida from 1987-2008, and was grandfathered in during June of 2008 when the State of Georgia began its’ first licensure.
