THE ARTHRITIS FOUNDATION TAI CHI PROGRAM

“Smooth, serene, gentle movement…a spa for your joints.”

That is how the Arthritis Foundation describes its Tai Chi Program. This program is tailor-made to promote healthy joints. The program was developed by Dr. Paul Lam, a medical and tai chi expert who developed arthritis at an early age and set out to find ways to cope with this disease. Medical studies show that people who regularly practice this program have reduced arthritis symptoms and improved balance and function. Tai chi has been found to benefit people with a range of chronic health conditions, including various types of joint and back pain, osteoporosis, diabetes, cancer recovery, stress & anxiety, to name a few. Tai Chi renews your body and relaxes your mind. The gentle, graceful, flowing movements of this Sun style tai chi promote mental and physical strength, stamina and flexibility.

The Arthritis Foundation Tai Chi Program is suitable for every fitness level, and can be done seated or standing. Classes last about an hour, and the routines can be quickly learned for easy practice at home. DVDs and movement charts are available for home practice as well.  Tai chi is a safe and fun exercise that you can continue to enjoy the rest of your life.

If you do not have arthritis, you will not be left out! This program can benefit anyone, and it feels great!

About Tai Chi Classes @ Core Bodyworks
Beginner classes are set up in 8 week sessions to help you keep a consistent practice to lay a good foundation for learning tai chi. In these classes you will learn the tai chi movements one at a time, which will facilitate the learning process. If you want additional practice, you are welcome to repeat the beginner session as often as you like, or you may move to one of our Intermediate classes.

Intermediate classes are generally ongoing (continuous). Here you pick up where you left off in the beginner sessions, learning new movements and focusing more on tai chi principles which enhance your tai chi. You are encouraged to progress at your own pace. We often split into groups for part of the class to individualize your practice, focusing on new movements you are learning or enhancing those you have already learned.

What to wear: Wear loose comfortable clothing and flat soled shoes that easily stay on your feet. If you desire, you can purchase specially designed tai chi shoes.
