Yoga at Core Bodyworks
Namaste’: this greeting, “I bow to you”, is used to convey respect, and may be interpreted “The Divine in me, honors the divine in you”. As we practice yoga at Core Bodyworks, we use this salutation to deepen the meaning of our physical practice.
All classes encompass the “whole body”, mental, emotional and physical, encouraging us to renew the mind while we strengthen and restore the body. Classes may or may not have chanting, or meditation, but will always will begin and end with silence and relaxation.
Gentle Yoga
This class allows students to explore the yoga journey with care for knees, back, neck and balance issues. Chairs, bolsters and other props allow the class to move methodically through a basic yoga format, including breath work, led meditations and exercises for specific issues. The class is wonderful for seniors, but also for those who wish to relax and renew.
Yoga Basics
A slightly shorter class to introduce the practitioner to alignment principles and breath work. Plenty of time for explanation and feedback
Hatha Yoga - ha (sun), tha (moon)
Hatha Level 1 & 2 – This class is a step up from the basics (level 1), allowing new practitioners to get the full experience of a yoga class. Pranayama (breathwork), asana (the postures), meditation are all practiced in both levels. Depending on the group, arm balances and inversions are introduced. Level 2 practitioners perform more asana per class, practice arm balances and inversions, as well as work on more complicated poses. Sanskrit terminology is used. 75-90 min.
Vinyasa Flow Yoga
Vinyasa Flow 1 & 2 – Vinyasa means to flow with the breath. In a Level 1 class the “flow” may be taught in small segments where the breath initiates the movement, and one movement flows into another. There is a prolonged level of effort in a Level 2 class, and asks that the practitioner move more quickly, still with breath leading the practice. Arm Balances, Inversions and complicated poses are introduced in a Level 1 and practiced regularly in a Level 2 along with Sanskrit terminology. 90 min.
Yin Yoga
Whereas all of the above practices are Yang in nature (rhythmic movement, engaging muscles, heating), a Yin practice is more still, cool, and has very little movement. The bones, ligaments and connective tissue (inner body) are defined as Yin, conversely this Yin practice is mainly stationary, allows muscles to soften and exposes the joints to pressure as the skeleton is gentle “pulled”. The body is moved into a posture (asana) and the pose is held for 2-5 minutes to allow for sufficient shifts in the tissue. The practices’ intention is to alter and heal those structures. Breathwork is practiced throughout. 75 min.
Restorative Yoga
The intent in this practice is to heal through relaxation of the physical body. There are times in our weekly cycles of physical work, physical fitness and physical stress that relaxation is what we need. We condition the mind to help us “just relax” in the poses which are very often “propped”. Bolsters, blankets, yoga blocks assist in setting up poses without “action” in the muscular system. Poses are also held 3-10 minutes. 90 min.
Core Power Yoga
Intent in this class is to strengthen the core. Asanas are practiced with specific attention to shoulders, abdomen, hips and the back (the core). The bandhas, a sanskrit term meaning “energy lock” becomes the focus. As strength builds, powerful movements and postures are attained. 60 min.
Children's Yoga
These classes are broken into age groups 4-7 and 7-11. The class for ages 4-7 (45') has fun games and poses to begin teaching the philosophy and practice of yoga. The class for children 7-11 years old (60') introduces more poses, philosophy and breathwork. Both classes follow the getgrounded kids' yoga - an Anusara Inspired program, recognized by Georgia Dept. of Education.
Karma Yoga
Karma, the yoga of contributing or giving. This all levels class is taught by 5 different staff Yoga instructors and is taught to share yoga, and to donate the proceeds to a charity. We hope that this will provide a class that may help clients to better budget yoga in their lives. Also to help all of us "give back". Please try this class soon. Feel free to check the calendar on the website, or with us at the studio about special offerings: Power Yoga, Yin/Restorative Yoga, etc.
