Yoga at Core Bodyworks

Namaste’: this greeting, “I bow to you”, is used to convey respect, and may be interpreted “The Divine in me, honors the divine in you”. As we practice yoga at Core Bodyworks, we use this salutation to deepen the meaning of our physical practice.

The world of yoga, with its myriad styles and approaches, may be likened to a forest filled with variety and color. Every tree though, having the same goal; reaches for the light. Styles of Yoga are unique as bodies are unique, and at Core Bodyworks our goal is to help you find your own potential. The growth that is experienced and practiced through the body, serves the individual growth and potential of the spirit and the mind. Personal insights begin to manifest through the asana practice. (Asana: the physical poses!)

  • Yoga is not competitive. Try to relax, and have fun.
  • YOGA ETIQUETTE is to HONOR YOURSELF, first by giving yourself time to savor your personal time before practice begins, allowing your mind to settle. Second, to ACQUIRE AND ENJOY THE RITUAL; unrolling your mat with awareness, stretching or breathing with a quiet inner sense. Preparing yourself to feel deeply and clearly, and focus on your movement and breath. Finally, by HONORING THE INTENTIONS OF OTHERS. Let your practice become a time to look within, energize yourself, attune to your body, and allow others the space to do the same. This promotes an attitude of community without competition.

Gentle and Restorative Yoga

Following the theory and history of Hatha Yoga, the “gentle” approach allows for a less dynamic class. Poses may, or may not, be aided with props. The focus on breath and concentration allow for a deeper relaxation, along with the addition of fully restorative Yoga poses done to create physiological responses beneficial to health and stress reduction. This class is especially good for those with limited movement. 90 min.

Yoga Basics

Teaches the basics of alignment, action, breath and balance in the poses. Muscles lengthen while building strength in this weight bearing class. Joints are supported and neuro-muscularly reset for proper posture and action. Students will improve at their own pace and the class is appropriate for beginners and experienced students. 60 minutes.

Hatha Yoga

Ha (sun), and tha (moon) indicate that this class is based in Balance. Appropriate for all levels, students are encouraged to work at their own pace, modifying poses when needed. Hatha is one of the eight limbs of yoga set by Pantanjali centuries ago, indicating the “physical” discipline that will lead to a more contemplative and deeper personal growth. 75/90 minutes.

Vinyasa Flow Yoga

Vinyasa means to link the breath with the action or movement during asana. Poses are also linked together at times keeping the focus sharp. This form of yoga is a more dynamic modification of Hatha Yoga, and will challenge the more physically fit. 90 minutes.

Level I: Beginners with a background in Hatha Yoga, and Intermediate Students learning Inversions, and Arm Balances.
Level II: Intermediate students that want a more challenging class with Inversions, Arm Balances and more Sanskrit terminology.
